Reviews:
Based on a Korean folktale, this amusing story tells the tale of 2 frogs who always do the opposite of what their mother tells them. Their long suffering mother knows that the best way to get them to do what she wants is to tell them the opposite, but this backfires when her dying wish is to be buried on the sunny side of the stream, so she asks them to bury her in the shade. Regretful of their life of disobedience, the frogs bury her in the shade. Every time the stream floods they cry in fear of their mothers grave washing away. This folktale is why naughty children in Korea are called 'little frogs'.

Reviews:
Unlike western versions of this folktale, the poor girl does not face her problems alone, but is supported and helped by the people, and animals, of her community. They help her with her tasks and to prepare a costume for the prince's ball. Although the step-mother and step-sister do make Kongi do back-breaking work, after the ball, when the slipper fits and the prince claims his bride, they repent of their evil ways and are reconciled with Kongi, who forgives them of all. The beautifully detailed watercolour illustrations give a wonderful sense of the Korean landscape, rural household and the marketplace.
