Welcome to the Leckenby family home page. We live in Murrumba Downs, on the north side of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. My name is Kathryn (Kathie) Leckenby, my husband is Clive and I have 6 wonderful kids. We are both Englis by birth, Aussies by choice with a good drop of Ethiopian thrown in!!

Now a bit of family history:
We met through our Church, Revival Centres International, when I was 16 and Clive was 20 and we were married 18 months later (I was the ripe old age of 17 1/2 years old). We have been through many of the ups and downs common to all families but God has always been faithful to us and always blessed our endeavours.
Two of my sisters, Julia Rollings and Pam Phillips, who live in Canberra, Australia, both adopted children from overseas and we had seen what a wonderful way it was of building a family. When the time was right for us we applied here in Queensland to adopt from Ethiopia. Although our application was fraught with problems (Queensland Family services thought I was too fat to adopt) and took 3 years, in December 1997 we picked up our new sons, Tamru and Wubishet, from Ethiopia. We spent 2 wonderful weeks in Addis Ababa and fell in love with Ethiopia and the Ethiopian people. It is a truly amazing country. I strongly believe that Internationally adopted children need to be brought up with an appreciation of their birth country and culture. That is not always an easy thing to do in an Aussie household but I do my best by having Ethiopia food, music and books in the house, and by learning all I can about Ethiopia's history and traditions. One of the hardest things to find has been Ethiopian children's books and also reference books for adults. After much searching on the WWW I have located some amazing books and C.D.'s at Amazon bookshop, an internet mail order company.
I have built an on-line bookshop in association with Amazon books listing all the books I have found, as well as books on adoption, both for children and adults. I will continue to build this site to include all countries with adoption agreements with other countries.
